My new theme!!!

Lately i've been workin on this new theme for PSP which i call Painted Glass, it turned out to be well considering it was my first attempt XD....what can i say for now, it's just that i am too happy that i managed to hex edit the prx files to my liking, it's my work from 0 level, i created custom cintro, gameboot, clicksounds, waves, icons,01-12.bmp, volume icon, battery icon and something i don't remember, YEA!! i converted the font too...its up for download on customizepsp.co.uk..if u want, u can take a look and maybe even download and use it!!!

PSP Firmware 4.00 coming soon: includes Google Search, change video playback speed

We don't have a specific date for it yet, but according to Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations, the PSP's official firmware 4.00 update "will be released soon." How soon? We can only hope.

What can we expect from FW 4.00? According to Lempel, the upgrade will have a new Google Internet Search feature, accessible straight from the XMB. It uses Google's algorithms so it will return the exact same results from www.google.com.

The feature returns a search history recall of 20 items. Of course, you'll need to be connected to the Internet via a wireless access point or Wi-Fi hotspot to make this feature work.

Another feature inlcuded in Firmware 4.00 is the ability to speed up or slow down the playback speed of videos stored on the unit's Memory Stick. All you need to do for this is to press up or down while playing the video.

Sony Computer Entertainment UK product manager: LocoRoco 2 out by this year

Claire Backhouse, product manager for Sony Computer Entertainment UK, recently gave out quite a number of details regarding their upcoming titles for the PlayStation Portable. She also let slip that LocoRoco 2 will be coming by this year.

In an interview with MCV, Backhouse said that "the key software titles we have coming out this year for PSP include Echochrome, Buzz The Master Quiz, Secret Agent Clank, and LocoRoco 2." Could this be the confirmation of the rumors that we have been hearing so much about?

Sony is coming with box set that contains PSP cradle, D terminal AV cable

When the slimmer and lighter Sony PlayStation Portable was announced, one of the most notable features was TV-out.

This further solidified Sony's stance that the PSP was more than just a portable gaming machine; it's meant to be a full portable entertainment system. By connecting the PSP to your TV, you're almost getting a truly portable PlayStation 2.

But what is the best way to enjoy your PSP's "quality entertainment content" on your TV at home? Sony is finally coming to the rescue with a box set that contains both a PSP cradle and a D terminal AV cable. This cradle, which comes with a wireless remote, helps you ease the connection to your TV. This dock would be similar to the ones you'd find for an iPod or some other PMP.

There are two versions that will be available in Japan starting on April 24th. The cradle by itself will retail for 4800 Yen, whereas the one that comes bundled with cables sells for 6500 Yen.

Sony's 3.93 firmware UPDATED

If the last firmare update for the PlayStation 3 didn't excite you much, this probably won't either. Sony's latest firmware update for the PlayStation Portable is just a few notches above official firmware 3.90, and the new PSP firmware 3.93 probably won't stand out significantly when compared to earlier major updates.

What we've gathered from our sources and from lurking around the Internet is that the new firmware does add a few improvements for supporting additional Playstation - at least for the North American side.

And while we're still looking for European specific updates, the Japanese update grabs that single PlayStation support update from the NA version and has its sights locked on the new Skype. Thus, the update adds support for them, though only for PSP-2000s or PSP Slim & Lites.

GUIDE: Time Machine - Load previous Firmwares through Pandora

This guide is meant for those having problems installing and using Time Machine or for those who are thinking about it, but are a bit confused. Hopefully this will help you.

Just in case you don't know what Time Machine does yet:
The TimeMachine is a program to load previous firmwares and custom firmwares from a memory stick using a pandora battery. Like devhook, but working through pandora and custom ipl's, it would work even if the flash and nand ipl of the machine is destroyed.

GUIDE:
1. Download and install Despertar del Cementario if you haven't already.

2. Download and copy the TIMEMACHINE folder to /PSP/GAME

3. Place the 3.60 psar (if needed)**, 1.50 eboot, and 3.40 eboot in the root named 360.PSAR, 150.pbp, 340.pbp respectively. (The 150.pbp and 340.pbp may already be on the root if you have D. Cementario installed).

4. From the XMB go to Game and run "Time Machine".

5. Install iplloader. This will install the timemachine iplloader in the memory stick.

6. Select the options to install the firmware(s) to the memory stick using the eboots/psar that were were placed there in step 3. (Note: 1.50+3.40HW & 3.60 M33 need the 360.psar on the root to be installed.)

7. To boot time machine shut down the PSP and start up with a Pandora's Battery.

•To boot 1.50 (phat only), Hold "X"
•To boot 1.50+3.40HW, Hold "O"
•To boot 3.40 OE (phat only), Hold "Triangle"
•To boot 3.60 M33 (slim only), Hold "Square"

*To boot the old ipl (D. Cementario menu), Hold "up" on the D-Pad and the Pandora menu will come up.
*To boot the orignal firmware on your PSP hold nothing. On a slim PSP you must have 3.90 M33-2 or up installed for this to work.

**There is no 3.60 update PBP since only slim PSPs came with it pre-installed. The only way to get the 3.60 data is to dump the firmware to a psar file using a slim PSP that has 3.60 M33 installed (I have included it in the download for ease).

* Fixed custom CPU clock not working in games
* CPU clock has never (in any SE/OE/M33) be set at all in games that restarted using sceKernelLoadExec to use a subgame or reload themselves, after said restart happened (e.g. Castlevania). Fixed.
* Added setting to recovery to hide PIC0.PNG and PIC1.PNG in the XMB game menu
* By default off, when on you will probably notice a faster browse in XMB games.
* This setting only applies to any kind of apps/games (pbp, iso) that load from MS, but not to UMD's.

Dark AleX working on 3.80 M33 CFW

Here's some good news for those of us looking forward to a new custom firmware for our Sony PlayStation Portables, after the coming of the official 3.80 firmware beast from Sony itself: it seems that none other than Dark AleX himself is working on it, with the official firmware itself already dumped and decrypted. Awesome.

This comes from a forum post from the Sony PlayStation Portable developer himself, in a thread that talks about the official firmware being ripe for the picking. The post, verbatim:

Well, I will not be updating psar dumper until 3.80 M33, as for decompression it needs the 3.80 sysmem function for the new algorithm, but sysmem is also compressed with it. I'll be using the ipl function for internal decryption.

Official external battery charger found

It looks like Sony's releasing an official external battery charger. At least, that's according to photos unearthed from SCEA's press site. An external charging solution is great for those that have more than one battery -- quite possibly because of the purchase of a new extended-life battery. No official details on price or release date yet, but we're sure that Sony isn't really rushing to get this peripheral out into the wild.

[Update: The only difference between this and a previously released charger is that this Sony official peripheral is also compatible with the PSP-2000 series. At least, according to the packaging.The old battery chargers do not work with the PSP-2000.]

AcidMods site member F00 f00 isn't called the veritable god of PSP customization for nothing. His latest PSP mod puts together not one, but actually two mods into one handheld.The rig consists of carefully adding additional LED points from the original, with the note key
switching the indicator from mem to power to WiFi. A second mode changes the LED scheme to a light blue with a variation for a pulsing effect tied in with the headphone amp.The color switching itself is handled by a PIC microcontroller embedded into the handheld.
But enough technical jargon - simply put, this mod turns your PSP into a wicked handheld complete with all the mood lights and effects that you could ever look

PSP AdHoc File Transfer v0.6

Homebrew developer Minerva has recently updated the PSP Wi-Fi Adhoc File Transfer

It currently supports one-to-one, and up to one-to-six file transfers. Version 0.6 in particular comes with these new changes (quoting the Google translation):

* FilerView features simplified implementation. Button and the exit from FileMenu to change.
* Create a new folder, rename the file folder, and delete the copy moving.
* Acquisition mode implementation.
* If you carry this file??NO?NIKA hand! (Inside might.)
* OSK because of bloated file.
* File transfer in progress and the remaining time to show it.
* (Send and receive both v0.6 or more only. Small file transfer in the rest of the time is pretty???application).
* Error or at the completion of the transfer MESSEJIDIREI to hold down a button?BA make.
* Receiving the same name files, and read-only attributes of the case had been forwarded to the failure to correct the problem.

As with the previous release, PSP Wi-FI Adhoc File Transfer v0.6 will work on units running on OE, M33 and Kernel3.xx-based custom firmwares. We further remind would-be users that their PSPs need to be running on at least version 0.5 to participate in the file transfers. You'll also want to be careful - Minerva warns that there is a danger that the files being transferred can be intercepted.

We thank Danoob2 for tipping us of regarding the release application to version 0.6. This application, in case you're a first-time reader, allows you to transfer files from your PSP to another via the handheld's Wi-Fi connection.

Take a look at the Slim PSP's battery bulge

Sony's official extended life battery cover for PSP-2000 owners doesn't come out for another few weeks. However, 1_blue_pixel from the PlayStation forums has purchased a third-party cover from DealExtreme. He offers some truly insightful pictures of the system with its battery bulge. (For those that aren't in the know: longer life PSP batteries are larger than the current batteries in the PSP-2000, and will protrude out of the system slightly.) From the looks of the picture, it doesn't seem like the bulge will be too noticeable. In fact, we think it's worth it just for the 11 hour battery life.
I for one thought the bulge was going to be a lot worse, but its really not that bad especially for gaining all that extra gaming time. I doubt its really 11 hours as thats only reading the power level of just using the xmb, but its still going to increase the game time a lot regardless. The only bad thing is that his cover doesnt match.

UPDATE Sony unveils PSP Extended Life Battery Kit, price, release date

Have you ever been miffed while playing because your Sony PlayStation Portable's battery life failed to last through the seemingly endless hours playing? Those days of protracted gaming may soon be over with Sony's recent revelation of its PSP Extended Life Battery kit and covers for both the old version of the PSP and the PSP Slim and Lite.

Compatible for both the PSP 1000 and PSP 2000 models, the 2200 mAh battery will provide the old version of the PSP a significant 20% addition to the phat PSP's battery life while the PSP Slim battery life will be increased by 80%, ensuring gamers even longer hours of game play than before.

This is good news indeed since the older version of the PSP only averaged an approximate 11 hours of battery life. On the other hand, although the PSP Slim and Lite was initially believed to consume more battery power than the first version, updated articles later confirmed that both the consoles used up the same amount of power.

On the down side though, the new battery kit will slightly bulge out if inserted in the PSP Slim and Lite. Sony will be providing special covers for the new batteries, though the Star Wars Ceramic White version doesn't have an available updated battery cover available at the moment.

Daedalus R14 update: New look, ready for new audio code

StrmnNrmn, developer of Daedalus, has released yet another update to previous plans of accommodating Azimer's HLE audio code into the Media Engine for Daedalus R14. The homebrew developer has recently wrestled with the Media Engine and managed to get the audio upsampling (increasing the sampling rate for more defined audio) working flawlessly.

StrmnNrmn says that the process took longer this way, but the developer admits that going through with the meticulous coding is moulding the troubleshooting mindset for the integration and execution of Azimer's HLE audio code with the Media Engine. There are still issues to address when running the HLE code asynchronously with the Media Engine, and StrmnNrmn will be tackling them soon.

On the lighter side, the developer picked up BenHur's text rendering library which apparently uses the PSP's default font. StrmnNrmn may be keeping the new look for the Nintendo 64 homebrew emulator, and Daedalus R14's interface may be transformed to a more professional, eye-friendly affair (see image above).

Gaming fashionistas: saving the world in style

It's bad enough that video game characters have to trudge around all over the virtual place only to get beaten up by baddies, but do they have to walk around in drab white pajamas and a pitiful red bandanna tied around their heads? While doing heroic deeds is almost guaranteed to put you into the spotlight, it never hurts to look a bit snazzy while saving the world, too.

Here's just a few characters (among many others) who manage to save the world while looking like fashion models at the same time:

We kick off this short list with the hero of Capcom's Devil May Cry series, Dante, the one-time model for the Diesel clothing fashion line. With his bad-guy looks and trademark red coat - who could go wrong with red trenchcoats? - this mercenary can always turn to modeling if ever his Devil May Cry shop fails to pull in enough revenue.

Next up is Cate Archer of No One Lives Forever by Monolith Productions (for the PC, PlayStation 2). 007's female counterpart can give James Bond a run for his money, with her incredibly sharp intellect matching her stylish attractiveness. Clad in cool sixties fashion complete with perfectly styled hair, Cate certainly saves the day in style with her must-have spy equipment, such as exploding lipstick, a hair barrette that also serves as lock pick, and sunglasses with camera zoom.

Another gaming heroine with a rather effortless flair for fashion is Heather from Capcom's Silent Hill 3 for the PlayStation 2. It's tough having to run around and deal with zombies alone, but doing so while looking presentable is a big feat in itself. This doesn't mean that Heather looks as if she doesn't break a sweat, all the running around business has visibly taken its toll on her, making her appear slightly smudged in soot. But we still like her anyway.

In the realm of MMORPGs - where heavily armored males and skimpily-clad females abound, there's one title that stands out when it comes to fashion... well, old-style fashion, at least: Sword of the New World (also known as Granado Espada) by IMC Games. One can never go wrong with gowns designed in old Spanish flair, and with snappy tuxedos and military uniforms that never fail to elicit a second glance.

Finally, we end this list with quite an unexpected entry: Mario from the Super Mario Brothers franchise. Yes, we know you're muttering something along the lines of "what the heck?" right now, but we're serious.

Aside from being one of the forefathers of good old sidescrolling adventures, our favorite plumber Mario is one of the first video game characters who put emphasis in fashion, and had quite an impressive wardrobe to prove it. From white overalls, tanooki costumes, to a fantabulous rainbow costume in Super Mario Galaxy, he's certainly the video game fashionista to look up to.

iR Shell 3.8: now with PSOne 2-Player Adhoc support

Now sporting a new look, PSP Slim & Lite support, as well as a host of other useful upgrades, this little piece of homebrew should easily prove its worth as a keeper on your handheld's memory stick.

Let's look at the changelog and see what's new from the previous version:

* Supports the latest M33 firmwares across both Phat & Slim. Slim users can choose among 3.60M33, 3.71M33-1 to 3.71M33-3.

Homebrew scene news flash: Dark_AleX hasn't given up yet

A little over a week ago, we saw Dark AleX unveil a new build for his CFW 3.71 M33-3 + PopsLoader. Recent developments may have led some to believe that the intrepid PlayStation Portable homebrew hero is slowing down. Mathieulh begs to differ.

According to the developer, M33 is still alive and kicking with DAX still at the helm and not planning to give up anytime soon. Here's a snippet of Mathieulh's post on LAN.ST:

Not quite a surprise but I rather make it official, after much reflexion Alex decided to go on with the M33 project, although you should not expect as regular updates as there used to be, for instance the M33 will be updated to future kernels only when believed necessary, thus no 3.72M33 planned (we are waiting on future official firmwares and keep improving M33's features from now on.)

There you have it folks. It looks like DAX has decided to stay in the scene, or at least for the time being. Let's all be patient and wait for future releases from Dark_AleX. As of now, they (M33) are open to suggestions for improvement. Also, Mathieulh invites interested coders who want to devote some of their time with M33 to email. Sony's Breakdancing Sim Coming To USA

Back in 2006 Sony Computer Entertainment Europe brought B-Boy out to the market. The title is a competitive dance game where you create a breaker and battle your way up the ranks without using a dance pad.

While B-Boy was designed for Europe, Crazy Legs and other members of the Rock Steady Crew from New York starred in the game. Time passed, Sony never mentioned it at any conferences and then B-Boy slipped into Korea. It looked like it was never coming out in North America, but we’ve got a hopeful sign. Gamefly has listings up for the Playstation 2 and PSP version of the game. Both are scheduled to ship on February 7, 2008, but Sony isn’t mentioned as the publisher. If Gamefly’s records are correct, South Peak Interactive picked up the title instead.

EA says NFS: ProStreet will dominate this Christmas

EA Games' Need For Speed franchise may have taken a turn stylistically with Need For Speed: ProStreet, but the company believes that its impact on the gaming business will be similar to that of its predecessors. EA Says that NFS: ProStreet should hold the top spot for the holiday season, like most of its predecessors.

"A Need for Speed game has been Christmas number one for four of the last five years, with FIFA only pipping it to the post last year in a debatable count back," says Steve Farrell, senior product manager at EA.

To ensure that Need for Speed: ProStreet rules all other titles in the season of giving, EA plans to throw some major investments in a PR campaign to drum up support for the title's launch. This EA speedster is due out on November for a worldwide release on the Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PC, Sony PSP, mobile, and Nintendo DS. Farrell concludes:

We are confident the increased quality of the game this year – as well as our extensive marketing campaign, with support throughout the run-up to Christmas – will help to re-establish a Need For Speed game at number one.

PSP Store arriving 'after Christmas' in Europe

The PC-compatible PLAYSTATION Store will arrive in Europe "after Christmas," according to a new e-mail sent out by SCEE today. The Store will feature "games, themes and wallpapers" and "trailers, music and films." This ambitious revamp of downloadable content for PSP certainly can't come soon enough!

Japan Only: Yggdra Union Demo UMD

Sting will give out a free demo UMD for their upcoming SRPG, Yggdra Union: We’ll Never Fight Alone, to members of Sting Station, the company’s mobile content portal. Sting has so far put in plenty of efforts promoting the game, including frequent updates at the official website.hopefully the demo will make it to the web later.

Yggdra Union is set for release on January 24th in Japan, more info on the demo at the official website.

Well as most of you guyz already know about the cool gadget from SONY that we know by the name PSP (Playstation Portable), well for starters the PSP is a all in one entertainment system which allows you to play games in the PS2 quality as well as allows you to watch high def videos and listen to the music on the go....and yes u can access the internet via it's wi-fi capability wherever hotspots r available.
